Beggars in Spain by Nancy Kress
What would happen if people could be genetically modified not to sleep? Sounds like it might not be so bad, right? But how would others react? Could Sleepers and Sleepless become new segregated communities? That's what Leisha sees happening. As a Sleepless, she does all she can to try and keep the two together, but the world is so big, and she is only one person. It's a book that spans decades, infused with ideas, philosophies, space orbitals, and even more gene modification. While not necessarily exciting, it makes for an interesting and engaging read.
